Stamping on Patterned Papers

Hi! I hope you’re having a great Wednesday. It’s Jocelyn here, and today made a card with the Wild Hibiscus stamp set. I also have a few tips for stamping on patterned paper.

Mother's Love

I started by stamping the sentiment from the Wild Hibiscus set, inking the edges of the panel, and adding gold spray mist.

Next, I stamped three of the flowers from the Wild Hibiscus set and one of the butterfly images on patterned paper:

Here are a few suggestions for picking patterned papers that work well with Altenew stamps:

  • Altenew flowers have dimension, and therefore I tend to avoid papers with a strong repeating pattern (think bold stripes or polka dots). The pattern won’t bend with the images. Instead, I pick papers with less discernible patterns or no patterns.
  • Consider inking the stamps with a dark permanent ink first to stain the stamp outline. Being able to see the outline helps with orienting the stamp on the patterned paper.
  • Papers with varied colors work well and play on the dimension. For this card, I tried to orient the stamps where the darkest area of the paper was in the center of the flowers.
  • Select different colors or patterns for the same card, especially for floral images.
  • Try several patterned papers, even if the patterns don’t look like they would fit with the stamp. I almost avoided the patterned paper I used since I wasn’t sure about the gold flecks, but it worked.

Here’s a close-up:

I fussy cut the flowers and butterfly and then added a couple of gold accents to finish the card.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Altenew Inks Blog Hop

Hello Hello!

We have been waiting for this day for quite some time, and it is finally here! Today we are celebrating the release of Altenew inks!

The design team have been raving about these inks, so what makes them so amazing? Here are some of their properties:

  • Water-based, you can water color with them!
  • Crisp Impression and no bleeding, perfect for detailed images.
  • Smooth coverage, you will see in a minute how smooth they are!
  • The colors retain their brightness after drying.
  • Very minimal staining, preserving the transparency of clear stamps.

Our first release has twelve colors, including black. These colors were carefully chosen so that the ones in the same family coordinate with each other very well.

Notice how smooth the impressions are? The four layered roses has all the colors in a column from the above color chart. The three layered roses utilize the three lighter shades in a column. This is just one way to use them, you can mix and match and even use second or third generation stamping to get more out of these inks. The sentiment was stamped using Jet Black.

Here is another example of Altenew inks at work. Once again, notice smooth coverage and the crisp details.

We mentioned earlier that you can use these inks for water coloring. In this card, we have done just that. Warm Sunshine, Caramel Toffee and Paper Bag were used to color the top flower, and Coral Berry and Ruby Red were used for the bottom flower.

These inks blend quite well on paper. In this card, a rectangular panel was masked off, and two inks (Grapevine and Warm Sunshine) were applied using a sponge applicator.
